Shin Sekyung: “I recently drank with Yuri unnie.”

On August 16th, Shin Sekyung, who played Lee Gayoung in “Fashion King”, appeared on an episode of “Taxi”, where she was asked about drinking alcohol and revealed, “I recently drank with Yuri unnie.”

Shin Sekyung continued, explaining her friendship with Girls’ Generation’s Yuri by saying, “There are nerve wars between actresses. As she was a Girls’ Generation member, nerve wars had to be there.”

However, despite the nerve wars, the two became friends. The popular actress stated, “Because she’s so nice and laid back, we got close. But we haven’t been able to meet up because of schedules.”

During her appearance on “Taxi”, Shin Sekyung also discussed watching the final episode of “Fashion King” with the actors and staff of the drama. She said, “The actors and staff all watched the last episode together, and we were all weeping. Because all the staff was there, we also sang and danced outside. I found unnie (Translator’s note: Shin Sekyung is referring to Yuri) outside too. She went outside after crying, but she was dancing like crazy. She sang ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ and ‘Gee’. I copied her from the side too.”

“Fashion King”, Yuri’s first drama as a lead role, finished airing in May of this year.

Yuri talks about acting in ‘Harper’s Bazaar’

The Girls’ Generation member also affectionately expressed that, as this was her first time working as an actress, she received a lot of advice and assistance from her actor sunbaes while working on ‘Fashion King’. ”Because I approached my actor colleagues first [for help], they were all the more passionate to assist me. Also an upperclassman at school, Ha Jung Woo oppa, said to me, ‘Right now, have fun with and learn from this opportunity.’ He gave me this piece of advice, and I was able to understand what he meant after I finished working [on 'Fashion King'].

As for her hopes for the future, Yuri added, “I want to become a genuine and pure person who has no false images built up around her. I think that if I can become that kind of a person, I will naturally become a genuine and pure actress as well.” To specify her future ambitions concerning her acting, she added, “Next time, I would also like it if I could act as a character who is always bright, always smiling, has aegyo, and is loved by everyone.

SNSD member Yuri has a dazzling performance in the SBS drama “Fashion King“!

SNSD member Yuri has a dazzling performance in the SBS drama “Fashion King“.

Recently, Yuri had an interview with a Korean female magazine. Here’s translated part of the interview.

Yuri was wearing a yellow jacket, dragging the rack while talking on the phone. Her sudden appearance scared Yoo Ah In. She said to him coolly, “I don’t have time, get out.” This is the scene in episode 3 of “Fashion King” where the two first met. The lines of Yuri is all in English, while the last sentence, “get out,” perfectly expresses her apathy and irritability. She not only speaks English like local, but also conveys her feelings.

Yuri is unlike Tiffany and Jessica who lived abroad. “I’ve been thinking of waiting to act before I debuted, when I was a trainee 7, 8 years ago, I have thought of it for 10 years. I continuously attends the acting class and reads the script alone. Then, I feel happy I can star in a drama. I met director for 10 times before the filming started, because director did not know me very well, and has no way to identify my acting, so he gave me a lot of opinions. My biggest fear was to act using English. Anna is a famous and experienced designer in New York, so she cannot just smoothly speak, but also must attentively express the emotions. When practicing, I will use a tape recorder and camera to record and keep repeating the listening.”

Girls’ Generation member YoonA used to star in “You Are My Destiny” in 2008, Jessica also starred in “Wild Romance” recently. Comparing with them, Yuri who wanted to act and prepared for 10 years started relatively late. Unlike other members, up to the broadcast now, no one is criticizing her acting.

“It’s like my character, very similar to Anna, I want to show a more complete state. Whether it is in English, acting, singing and dancing, I want to show sincerity. In order to express this image, I must be familiar with it. And in order to become familiar with it, I have to keep practicing hard, I think this is why I spent a longer time.” Lastly, Yuri was selected by fans in MBC variety show “Show Champion” as the member of Girls’ Generation who has the best body. Even the members of SNSD also said, “We envy the healthy body of Yuri.”

Fitness instructor Sean Lee said in the SBS program “Victory”, “One members like Sooyoung has naturally born body, but the perfect body of Yuri come from her continuous efforts in exercising.” The choreographer teacher of SM Entertainment, Shim Jae Won said, “Everybody will stand on the stage to accept the teacher’s criticism in the end, if one doesn’t work hard, it will become their scars, even if this stage is their dream, there is no way to bring them happiness.” Even pop groups like Girls’ Generation also need to continue to grow to get everyone’s attention no matter where they are.

This is why Yuri’s words can not be taken lightly, “Although I look very attractive, but there is a lot of hardship on the painstaking road which others couldn’t seen, making me shaking and giving up, but I keep telling myself that this is only a temporary moment, I will stand up again. Because we get a lot of love and other things from everyone, so we have the responsibility to repay the love. This is why no matter how difficult or hard, I cannot give up, and which is why no matter how hard, we can get the strength to face it.”

In May, the autobiography-style film of SM is releasing, and Yuri wrote on her individual poster, “I can fall but I will not give up,” which is why Yuri, regardless of as singer or an actor, would succeed.

Is Girls’ Generation’s Yuri Really Fluent in French?

Shortly after the 15th episode of SBS drama “Fashion King” aired on May 7, Korean media was quick to dub Girls’ Generation’s Yuri as the next “intelligent” K-Pop star with both the looks and the brains.

Her new nickname was based on a scene in “Fashion King” where Yuri speaks in French over the phone. Sitting next to Yoo Ah In, Yuri says how good looking her boss is and promises to show him to the person on the phone tomorrow. Although it was a brief 20-second conversation, Korean press and netizens lauded the young idol star for her ability to “master” two foreign languages (English and French) in such a short period of time.

Netizens commented, “Of course, she’s our next biggest Hallyu star,” “I knew she could speak English, but now she’s fluent in French too,” and “Who knew she was this smart?”

But when we contacted our French sources for verification, their response wasn’t so positive. They said Yuri’s accent was “strange” and definitely “awkward,” adding, “It’s almost like us speaking in Korean.”

How does GG's Yoon-A feel about being compared to Yuri?

Girls’ Generation‘s YoonA expressed the burden she feels about having her acting compared to the skills of fellow member Yuri.

On April 27th, YoonA met with reporters at the vicinity of her shooting location for KBS 2TV‘s ‘Love Rain‘, where she candidly revealed her thoughts on the drama.

When asked how she felt about the comparison between her and Yuri’s acting skills, YoonA answered, “Our stress factors are different. This is Yuri unnie’s first time acting, but I am at the stage where I have to solidify my path as an actress. I was very surprised after seeing Yuri’s acting because she is so much better than I was during my first project.”

She added, “I rested from acting for two years, but I think I matured a lot during that time. Whether it’s working with the other actors or analyzing the script, my eyes for seeing the work have widened. Let’s say if I only looked at my parts in the past, now I look at the work as a whole to grasp my role.”

YoonA was then asked about the reaction she received from the other Girls’ Generation members for ‘Love Rain’. YoonA responded, “Everyone says I come out so pretty in the drama and likes it. In particular, they were all very surprised after watching the kiss scene.”

YoonA then chose Sooyoung as the member who monitors her acting the most, stating, “Sooyoung unnie personally recorded the Japanese dialogue for me. Because I would listen to the recording to practice before the scenes, there were times where I spoke in Sooyoung unnie’s tone, which left me very surprised.”
