I have a Sone friend who has been a fan of SM artists more than 10 years. Today we had a long talk on the phone about Soshi bond, and concluded that we won’t be able to witness another team with this good chemistry because Soshi is pretty exceptional.
Everybody knows that Jessica had been trained for 7 long years. It’s a very exceptional case for recent idols because they get trained far less. Even SM isn’t training trainees that long recently. There are some reasons for it. Training is a cost, it takes money, so it’s better if a company doesn’t have to train a trainee for a long period. Also, trainees are young and if they fail in competition, they should choose another career for life. Of course SM and other companies let them go to school and get the education but focusing on two things is a risk for the trainees. Therefore 7 year training became an old school.
Most of SNSD members are trained for 5+ years. Taeyeon and Tiffany had 2-3 years training though, Taeyeon spent more years in SM’s Starlight Academy or something like that (darn, I am poor at remembering things), and you know Tiffany is the kind of person who puts everything on what she does.
In the training, trainees are rivals and possibly future partners. This is a tricky situation. You get challenge, frustration, anxiety, envy, and all the kinds of emotion. Note that SM has the hardest challenges for the trainees. Spending years in the training makes you stronger or quit. Hopefully they survived and waited for a long time, and became sisters.
SNSD is somewhat old school in a sense that these girls put everything for their dream for 7 long years sharing hard time together. Time has changed and it became an old story. Now nobody is training that long time and idols are debuting in a couple of years. If you understand how exceptional Soshi is, you can understand why Soshi bond is so special and exceptional.
