MBC Korean Music Wave in Google !

The ‘MBC Korean Music Wave in Google’ concert took place at 11am KST on May 22nd (local time, 7pm PDT on May 21st) in Shoreline Amphitheater, California, USA and was aired live worldwide simultaneously through YouTube.
On the previous day, SM artists performed at the ‘SM Town Live World Tour III in Los Angeles’ held at Honda Center in Anaheim in front of more than 12,000 fans. For the two concerts, the girls had to perform with only seven members as Yuri and YoonA were busy with their drama shoots.
The girls opened their performances with the English version of ‘The Boys’ and they covered YoonA and Yuri’s parts professionally throughout the song. Without an interpreter, the girls had some great time interacting with the audience.
Girls’ Generation then continued to captivate the audience with ‘Mr. Taxi’ and ‘Gee’. During the early part of their ‘Gee’ performance, there was a technical problem with the microphone. Nonetheless, the members kept their focus, showing no signs of panic and wrapped up their performances professionally.
‘MBC Korean Music Wave in Google’ was hosted by Taeyeon and Tiffany with great performances by some of the biggest stars of Kpop such as Girls’ Generation,TVXQ, Wonder Girls, Kara, Beast, MBLAQ, Sistar, f(x) and Super Junior. During Girls’ Generation’s performances the number of viewers rose to more than 119,000, which was the highest figure observed throughout the concert.

Seohyun became the first contestant on the quiz show, "100 Million Quiz Show" to get a perfect score!

Girls' Generation's Seohyun became the first contestant on the quiz show, "100 Million Quiz Show" to get a perfect score.

On the episode of "100 Million Quiz Show" that aired on May 18, Seohyun guest starred and surprised everyone by receiving a perfect score.
Seohyun, who has a strong model student and bookworm image, was not only able to answer each question but to explain each answer in a detailed manner. Seohyun was able to steadily answer each question and was able to rise to the final round. Her final question was, "What decides the color of an eggshell?"
With 40,000 dollars and a car on line, Seohyun explained "There are different races and colors of people too. Just because an Asian person drinks white milk, doesn't mean they will produce a white person." With that, she chose answer number 1, which was "It depends on the color of the female chicken."

This correct answer made Seohyun into the MVP for being the first person to achieve a perfect score. MC Kim Yong Man stated, "This is the first time this ever happened."
Netizens who caught this episode commented, "She has read so many books so she is filled with knowledge too," "She was number 1 on 'Music Bank' and she is the MVP for this show as well," "She is too smart to be in Girls' Generation," "Hyoyeon is number 1 with dance and Seohyun got a perfect score - Girls' Generation is on fire," "A smart maknae," and many more.

SMTown LA 05/20/12

SMTown LA was held at the Honda Center in Anaheim on May 20th, 2012. The stage was smaller than the previous ones (Staples Center in LA and Madison Square Garden in NY), and I was sitting at the middle of the 200 section. The view was pretty good and I could clearly see the girls when they walked down to the front part of the stage. The overall quality of the concert was not as good as the one held in MSG, and yet the ticket prices were higher. I spotted many seats at the 300 sections were left empty compare to SMTown NY were a nearly sold out crowd. They didn't have a lot of "effects" in this concert either, where they had fireworks and artists being held 100 feet above the ground in NY. Instead, they had water shooting from the floor, and that's the only effects they had all night. It's a little bit cheaply made to me. Some members didn't appear in the concert, only 8 members of Super Juniors were there, and 7 members of SNSD (Yuri and Yoona were missing). I don't know if that has to do with the ticket sales. There were some adjustments on the songs that I liked and disliked. SHINee combined few songs together into one song (Ring Ding Dong, Lucifer, and one other song that I forgot the name). It wasn't a good idea, as I thought the original was much better, and I kinda of thought that they were doing it to shorten the concert time. The concert time was shorter than the one held in NY (maybe about 30 minutes shorter). SNSD has performed some songs that has never been performed in previous SMTowns, such as Twinkle, Devil's Cry, and California Girls. (See the list of songs below). Jessica and Krystal finally performed a different song, where they performed Tik Tok twice in previous SMTowns. I enjoyed the cover of California Girls by them. The solo dance part were cut, maybe due to Yuri and Yoona absence. The only artists that have new songs from last SMTown concert were Shinee (Sherlock) and SNSD (Twinkle). EXO had their first debut of SMTown on this night.

The songs that SNSD performed in this concert (Not in order)
  1. Devil's Cry (Taeyeon Solo)
  2. Run Devil Run
  3. Genie
  4. Gee
  5. Kissing You
  6. The Boys
  7. California Girls (Jessica and Krystal)
  8. Twinkle (TaeTiSeo)
The concert was still a good one overall, but it's a bit of downgrade compare to the previous. Hopefully they will have another epic one at NYC in the near future.

Girls’ Generation’s role in spreading K-Pop worldwide!

Throughout the week, Girls’ Generation has been reported on by numerous news portals. Most of these websites are international-based, proving Girls’ Generation’s role in spreading K-Pop worldwide.
Earlier this week, “CNN Geek Out!” published an article regarding the upcoming Google concert which would be hosted at its headquarters in Mountain View. The article then proceeded to describe K-Pop’s global appeal. Several mentions of Girls’ Generation include their appearance on “Letterman” and their musical career in the Japanese market. The writer concludes the article by agreeing to a statement which states that “K-Pop captures happiness”.
Malaysian newspaper “The New Straits Times” has published an article in relation to Girls’ Generation – TTS’s breakthrough on the Billboard charts as well as their record-breaking success on the international iTunes chart. The article also contains a short blurb on fellow Girls’ Generation member Yoona’s character in her drama, “Love Rain”.
Reported by the official site itself, Billboard covered Girls’ Generation – TTS’s breakthrough onto the Billboard 200 chart, where they placed at 126. The article outlines the success of the three teasers uploaded prior to the release of “Twinkle” as well as several bonuses when purchasing the mini-album. “Billboard” praises the trio by describing Taeyeon as “one of the group’s most powerful vocalists”, Tiffany as “the charismatic and English-speaking [member]”, and Seohyun as the “youngest”. The article ends by saying that Girls’ Generation – TTS is “completely revamped” by focusing the girls on “funky vocals and vibrant outifts”.
Not long after Girls’ Generation won the site’s poll, “Popdust” covers Girls’ Generation – TTS’s latest release, “Twinkle”. The article comments on both the music video and the song, describing it as “big and brassy, with singing just as big and just enough modern production touches”. It also applauds the release by saying that it “could well be a massive hit”.
Last but not least, popular music magazine “Vibe” introduces Girls’ Generation to its readers on May 15. According to the site, Girls’ Generation’s English album “The Boys” has a sound which is similar to “Spice Girls meets the Pussy Cat Dolls”. Sooyoung has also told “Vibe” that Girls’ Generation’s performances “give off a certain energy” that is “not restricted to language or culture”, something that she believes is a key to their success in the U.S..'
